What is pool leak detection?
If your pool drops more than normal evaporation, water is leaving through a hidden leak. Leak detection stops the water loss, prevents damage under the deck and avoids repairs you do not need. We pinpoint the leak location and give you clear repair options instead of guessing.
How we find pool leaks
- Equipment check. We inspect the pump, filter, valves and unions so an equipment drip is not mistaken for a pool leak.
- Plumbing testing. Each plumbing line is isolated and tested to find underground breaks.
- Hydrophone listening. We listen for escaping water to narrow down where a line is broken.
- Dye testing. Our techs dive the pool and dye test skimmers, lights, returns, main drains and cracks.
- Report and estimate. You get a written report and a repair estimate. If we do the repair, we take 5% off the repair quote, up to the cost of your leak detection.
Pipe break? No problem.
We can locate and repair nearly any underground pool plumbing break.

Pool surface leaks
We find even the smallest leaks and test every fitting and pipe, every time.
We take pride in our patches
Our repair techs take real pride in their work, and our concrete and surface patches are some of the best in the industry. We do our best to match the color and aggregate, but a patch is concrete and it will be visible. We get it as close as we can, but we can't guarantee a perfect match.

Frequently asked questions
How much water loss is normal for a pool in Florida?
Evaporation in Southwest Florida usually runs about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per day, depending on sun, wind and heat. If your pool drops more than that, or your service tech keeps adding salt and stabilizer, you likely have a leak.
How much does pool leak detection cost?
Pro Pool Team leak detection starts at $295. Price depends on pool size, features such as spas and water features, and how complex the plumbing is. Larger or more complex pools can cost more. You get a written report, and if we do the repair, we take 5% off the repair quote, up to the cost of your leak detection.
How long does a pool leak detection take?
Most leak detections take one to a few hours depending on the pool and how complex the problem is.
How does Pro Pool Team find pool leaks?
We combine plumbing tests of each line, hydrophone (sonar) listening and dye testing of the pool shell, fittings, lights and skimmers.
Will a pool leak fix itself?
No. Pool leaks get worse over time and can wash out soil under the deck or damage the pool structure.
Should I fix a small pool leak?
Yes. Even a small leak raises your water bill, makes your equipment work harder and can cause long-term damage.
Does a pool leak detection company need a Florida license?
Yes. In Florida, removing main drain covers and pool lights for testing requires a state pool contractor license, and the license number starts with CPC. A complete leak detection checks the drains and lights. Pro Pool Team holds license CPC1460553. You can verify any contractor on the Florida DBPR license lookup.
Will I get photos or video of the leak?
Yes. Your report includes marked-up photos showing where the leaks are. If we can get a video of the leak during the detection, such as dye being pulled into a crack, we share that too.
Do I need to be home?
No. Leave the gate open and give us access to the pool and the equipment pad. In a gated community, call your security gate to let us in. The tech calls you to go over the report before leaving. You are welcome to be there if you want to watch.
How should I get my pool ready?
Fill the pool to its normal level the day before, keep the water clear enough to see the bottom, and turn off the auto-fill. If the water is green, shock it so the dye shows up.
Will you fix the leak while you are there?
The leak tech may put a temporary patch on a leak to slow the water loss. The permanent repair is done by our repair crew, and we quote it after the leak detection.
