Pool leak guide

How much does pool leak detection cost in Southwest Florida?

Pro Pool Team leak detection starts at $295. The final price depends on the size of the pool, its features and how complex the plumbing is. Here is what goes into the price and what you get for it.

What's included in a $295 leak detection

  • A full equipment check, not just for leaks
  • A plumbing test of every line
  • An interior check of the pool, lights, skimmers and fittings, with a diver in the water
  • A complete dye test
  • A written report of what we found
  • A repair estimate, with a discount if we do the repair

What makes it cost more

  • Larger pools and pools with an attached spa
  • Water features, sheer descents and extra plumbing lines
  • Hard-to-reach equipment or plumbing
  • Leaks that need extra testing to pinpoint

We give you the price before we schedule, so there are no surprises.

Do I pay if it turns out to be evaporation?

Yes. The testing is the same whether or not a leak is found, so leak detection fees apply even if the water loss is evaporation. To check first, try a bucket test.

Why a cheap leak detection can cost more

In Florida, removing main drain covers and pool lights for testing requires a state pool contractor license that starts with CPC. An unlicensed company can't legally test those, and a missed leak means paying twice. Ask for the CPC number. Ours is CPC1460553.

What happens after the leak detection

You get the report and a repair estimate. If you hire us for the repair, we take 5% off the repair quote, up to the cost of your leak detection. Our leak techs are not paid commission on repairs, so the report is about finding the leak, not selling you work.

How repairs are priced

Repairs are flat rate. Your quote lists each repair and its price before any work starts, so you know the total up front. Our own crews do the work, and repairs carry a warranty of up to 2 years depending on the repair.

Leak detection vs. a pre-sale pool inspection

A leak detection answers one question: where is the water going? If you are buying or selling a home with a pool, a pre-sale pool inspection covers the equipment, surface, safety items and a leak check in one visit. Pre-sale inspections start at $395.

How to keep the cost down

  • Do a bucket test first so you know it is a leak, not evaporation
  • Note where the water level stops dropping, if it stops. It helps us focus the testing
  • Leave the gate open and the equipment easy to reach. See how to prepare for a leak detection
  • Fix leaks early. A small leak left alone can wash out soil under the deck and turn into a bigger repair

Frequently asked questions

Is the price set before you come out?

Yes. We give you the price before we schedule, based on your pool, spa and features.

Do you have to drain the pool for a leak detection?

No. The testing is done with the pool full. A diver checks the lights, skimmers, fittings and drains in the water.

Is there a warranty on leak detection?

Yes. Our 60-day leak warranty covers new leaks for 60 days after your leak detection. Epoxy patches are not covered.

Will I see the leak?

When we can, we share a video of the leak, such as the dye being pulled into a crack or fitting. Your written report includes photos.

When do you arrive?

Leak detections are booked in two-hour arrival windows: 8 to 10, 10 to 12, 12 to 2, or 2 to 4. We text when we are on the way.
