What the license letters mean
- CPC is a Certified Pool/Spa Contractor, licensed by the State of Florida to work anywhere in the state.
- RP is a Registered Pool/Spa Contractor, licensed to work only in the local areas where it is registered.
- CFC is a Certified Plumbing Contractor.
Pro Pool Team holds Certified Pool/Spa Contractor license CPC1460553.
"Licensed and insured" is not a license number
Many websites say "fully licensed" or "licensed and insured" without listing a number. A local business tax receipt or a general liability policy is not a contractor license. Ask for the license number, then look it up yourself.
How to look up a license
- Go to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation website, myfloridalicense.com, and choose Verify a Licensee.
- Search by the license number, or by the company or owner name.
- Check that the status is Current and Active, not expired, delinquent or inactive.
- Check that the name on the license matches the company you are hiring, or its owner.
Red flags
- No license number anywhere on the website, truck or estimate.
- A license that shows as expired or inactive.
- A license in a name that has no connection to the company.
- Pressure to pay a large deposit in cash before any work is scheduled.
