Skimmer throat leak repair in Naples

A Naples pool kept dropping even with an autofill hooked up. Our leak tech traced it to the skimmer throat, and our repair crew came back to fill the gap behind the tile and refinish it.

Finding the leak

Our leak tech found water leaking at the skimmer throat, where the skimmer meets the pool wall. The suction side of the plumbing passed its test.

Why the pool kept dropping

The autofill was connected to the skimmer. Its bucket was full, but it wasn't putting enough water into the skimmer to keep up with the leak. An autofill can hide a leak for a while, so a pool that keeps running low with one working is worth checking.

Something else at the equipment

The automated valve got stuck when the system switched into spa mode from the control panel. That isn't a leak, but we noted it so it could be fixed.

The repair

The crew drained about 5,000 gallons to get below the skimmer. Once the throat was opened up, both sides were deteriorated, with a gap between the skimmer throat and the tile. They filled the void with hydraulic cement, then refinished the throat.

Refilling

The equipment stayed in service mode with the autofill running until the pool was full, then went back to its normal schedule. The repair went well.
