Draining safely
The crew neutralized the water before draining and sent it at least 10 feet away from the storm drain. They turned off the autofill and drained about 7,000 gallons to get below the light.
Removing the old niche
When the light came out, the crew found its face plate was broken, though it could still be secured. The old niche was so brittle that it cracked into pieces as it came out.
Installing the new niche
The crew connected the new niche to the bonding ground at the back and front, then sealed it into the pool wall and matched the surface around it. They reconnected the light at the junction box and closed it up.
Refilling
The skimmer valve was closed so the pump could keep running from the main drains while the pool refilled, and the autofill was turned back on.
